On Friday, Captain Joseph (Joe) Kolar will be laid to rest.

The Kelowna man passed away on Oct. 31 after a courageous battle with lung cancer, attributed to his 29-year career as a firefighter.

His service will take place on Friday at Trinity Baptist Church in Kelowna and it will be preceded by a procession along Springfield Road.

As a result, Springfield will be closed between Spall Road and Cooper Road from noon until 1 pm on Friday.

For the safety of those involved in or watching the procession, there will be no access to or from businesses, parking lots or properties along that stretch of Springfield for the entire hour.

“Once all uniformed members are safely off the roadway, Springfield Road will be reopened to vehicle traffic as soon as possible,” said a statement from the City of Kelowna.

“The City thanks residents and businesses for their understanding and support as Capt. Kolar is honoured.”

Once the procession is complete, the funeral will begin at Trinity Baptist Church at 1 pm.
