Anyone planning on travelling on the Coquihalla today should be cautious, as a snowfall warning is currently in effect.

A strong front will cause heavy snow on the Coquihalla from Hope to Merritt road today. A total snowfall of 20 to 30 centimetres is expected by the evening.

Snowfall is expected to continue through the night and into Monday. DriveBC is reporting current conditions are slushy with slippery sections.

Periods of snow are also expected between Merritt and Kamloops, amounting to about five centimetres.

Weather conditions can change suddenly in the mountains, making road conditions dangerous. Environment Canada is warning drivers to adapt to changing conditions, as the rapid accumulation of snow will make travel difficult, and visibility can be suddenly reduced at times.
