UPDATE: Hwy 1 reopened after incident west of Sicamous

(UPDATE @ 6:38 a.m. on May 26): Hwy 1 has been cleared following a vehicle incident on Saturday night.

(Original story @ 9:57 p.m. on May 25): A vehicle incident that has occurred between Salmon Arm and Sicamous has closed down Hwy 1 on Saturday night.

Drive BC says that the highway has been closed 8-km west of Sicamous and an assessment is in progress.

An alternate route is available via Hwy 97A and 97B which, according to an estimate from Google Maps, will only add about 18 minutes on your trip if driving from Salmon Arm to Sicamous. 

The road is estimated to be reopened at 11 p.m.
