Intersection improvement work at Leckie Road and Hwy 97 continues and a bigger closure has been put in place.
Leckie is now closed to vehicle traffic on both sides of Hwy 97, while lane closures on Hwy 97 will continue between 9 pm and 7 am.
Work will be ongoing until the end of August.
“Vehicles can access local businesses off Enterprise Way or Banks Road during these closures,” explained the City of Kelowna.
“Construction is being done to accommodate traffic signal works and continuing intersection improvements in this area.”
Vehicles and pedestrians are asked to keep their distance, use caution and follow all posted signage during construction as there will be an increase in truck and equipment traffic.
The improvements to the major Kelowna intersection include:
- Dual Left turn lane from Hwy 97 southbound onto Leckie Rd to add southbound capacity.
- Smart Right turn lane to increase safety for northbound right turns from Leckie to Hwy 97 across a new active transportation corridor (ATC) extension.
Once extended to Hwy 97, the Leckie ATC will span all the way between the highway and Mission Creek Greenway.
Future phases of the ATC will continue to Dilworth Drive and connect to the Okanagan Rail Trail.
