Bernard Avenue between Richter and Ethel streets will be closed for two days next week, weather permitting, while the road is re-paved and bike lanes are installed.

The work is being done as part of the City’s annual pavement management program.

Motorists are advised to avoid parking in the area starting at 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 16, as any vehicles parked on the street after this time will be towed.

Motorists are also asked to use alternate routes while the road is closed on June 17 and 18.

The addition of bike lanes will complete Bernard Avenue’s bike lane network between downtown and Glenmore Drive as well as connect to the Ethel Street Active Transportation Corridor.

A priority in the City’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan, this project supports improvements to the safety, connectivity and accessibility of Kelowna’s transportation networks.

To accommodate the space for bike lanes, parking will be removed on the north side of Bernard Avenue between Richter and Ethel streets.

For the safety of the public and work crews, the city asks that people please drive with care and follow signs and directions of traffic safety personnel.
