An appeal has gone out to raise funds for a boxer-mastiff cross with a serious eye problem.

Coco, who is three, has a case of cherry eye that has gone untreated for a year.

That has caused damage to the eye, which vets have twice attempted to repair and twice failed.

Her eye is now likely to need removal.

The BC SPCA’s Shuswap branch is now hoping to raise $3,220 to send her to an eye specialist.

“Coco has an excellent temperament and is very affectionate,” branch manager Victoria Olynik said.

“She can hardly see out of her right eye and it’s very uncomfortable for her.”

Coco, the branch added, has lived her entire life tied up – on a short leash indoors and a long leash outdoors.

“She hasn't been allowed time to run loose and just be a dog,” the SPCA explained.

But that doesn’t stop her greeting people “with a drooling smile”.
