The provincial watchdog is investigating the death of a female that was reported over the weekend.

The Independent Investigations Office of BC was notified of the incident of the death of a woman from Chase on Saturday, May 27.

“The IIO was notified of the death as police spoke to the woman the previous day (May 26),” said Rebecca Whalen, a spokesperson for the IIO of BC, in a statement.

Whalen says the investigation will seek to confirm if there is any connection between the death and police actions/inactions.

The IIO of BC conducts investigation into police-related incidents resulting in death or serious harm to determine whether or not an officer may have committed an offence.

As the investigation is ongoing, no other information will be provided at this time.
