Leaping flames and bristling heat met firefighters Saturday night as they battled a structure fire in the Willowbrook area in the South Okanagan.

The Willowbrook Volunteer Fire Department got the call about 10:30 p.m. Saturday night for the blaze by Green Lake Road and Highway 97. Those on the scene saw a huge orange glow as the house was engulfed in flames.

Thankfully, everyone was able to safely escape the home, including the pets.

Witness Skylar Noe-Vack reported that crews had to work to prevent the fire from spreading to cars as well as the forest around the scene. A few trees reportedly caught fire, but Noe-Vack said the crews quickly stopped the flames. The home itself was burned to the ground.

Firefighters were still on the scene Sunday morning to extinguish the blaze.
