An evacuation order has been put in place for 27 homes near Oliver, as the wildfire burning nearby has shown aggressive behaviour.

The Evacuation Order is in effect for homes along Fairview Road, Willowbrook Road, and properties at 1057 Old Golf Course. Residents are being told to leave their homes immediately, as the Testalinden Creek wildfire has been growing due to strong winds in the area. The fire, which was first discovered on August 14th, is currently an estimated 3,717 hectares in size and is 60 per cent contained.

Evacuated residents are being directed to the Oliver Community Recreation Centre located at 6359 Park Drive in Oliver. People requiring transportation are advised to call 250-492-0237 and the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen will organize a ride.

Members of the RCMP, as well as Search and Rescue, will assist in the evacuation order.

The Testalinden Creek wildfire is currently burning seven kilometres south of Oliver and the use of air support is limited due to heavy smoke and poor visibility. Due to gusty winds Wednesday night, the northwest flank has progressed north to the head of Tinhorn Creek.
