It’s the weekend and that means it’s time for KelownaNow’s weekly round-up featuring different community bits and bobs. The following things didn't make it as news stories, but we thought they deserved to be mentioned anyway.
Two new board members were signed to Okanagan College. Former Chief of the Splats’in Indian Band Gloria Morgan and Riminder Gakhal a lawyer from Vernon.

Okanagan College and Toyota Technical College are also celebrating 25 years of cultural and educational exchange. Twenty-five years ago the first students from Toyota Technical College arrived at Okanagan College to take on a summer program of collision repair training. Students also use the experience to learn English.
Mission Hall kids camps were a complete success. This past summer, the Okanagan Mission Community Hall hosted full-day themed camps that saw six weeks of sold-out camps.
A Kelowna comedian is returning to the stage on Aug. 19. Tim Nutt will perform at Dakoda’s Comedy Lounge and all money will go towards the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign.

The Environmental Education Centre for the Okanagan will be featuring a new exhibit shortly. The exhibit will be all about Kokanee salmon. For more information and times of operation, click here.
Hyper Hippo Games has made history by launching their hit title AdVenture Capitalist on Sony PlayStation4. It’s the first idle game to be published on the platform.
Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery announced the opening of the 2016 Laird of Fintry Single Malt Whisky Lottery. To sign up, click here.
International Gateway Kelowna has been shortlisted for the best language school in Canada by iStudy. It was chosen because of the programs offered, the downtown location, the school’s proximity to transit and because it’s simply in Kelowna. The nomination is based on student feedback.
A group of runners took part in the PACE Sports Fitness Charity Run on June 26. The group raised $9,145 for the Kelowna branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association. The race was a 30-kilometre trek from Kelowna to Naramata.
An annual community BBQ fundraiser held near La Casa Lakeside Cottage Resort set a new record. The BBQ raised a record amount of $16,200 for the North Westside Firefighters Society. That’s $5,000 more than last year’s event.
Kelowna's lawn bowling "Ann and Helene Kelowna Mixed 5s" tournament will be held on Aug. 26 to 28. There will be up to 80 players on 16 teams. For more information, click here.
And lastly, the Parkinson Recreation Centre will be temporarily closed from Aug. 29 to Sept. 17 for annual general maintenance. The closure will affect the main pool, the children’s play pool, whirlpool and the steam room.
