KelownaNow is excited to feature some of our favorite Instagram profiles from the area!

My name is Madi-Mae, I am 16 years old. I am currently attending high school at George Elliot Secondary, in Lake Country. I absolutely love the outdoors, my dog, hiking, and photographing everything. My goal is to become a National Geographic photographer, and make the cover.

Why do you use Instagram?

I use Instagram because you can expose your photos to any age, gender, or group of people you're trying to reach. Everyone uses Instagram, what better way is there it truly get yourself out there?

What will people see on your feed?

I try to keep my photos as diverse and open as possible, I don't want to limit myself to one specific style just yet. I love to take photos of landscapes and get the up close details you wouldn't usually notice. I dabble in photo shop a little bit as well, but I try to keep my photos as natural as possible.

Does your page have a specific style?

Like I said before, I try not to limit myself to one type of photo style. But my favourite style is definitely close detail shooting. Getting close to the subject and just showing all the fine little details most people would skim over, feels like giving my followers a glimpse into my headspace.

Favourite Instagram accounts to follow?

One of my absolute favourite accounts is @travisburkephotography , his photos are always out-of-the-box and amazing to view. @brandonwoelfel is another one of my top favourites, the way he can capture to essence of a persons identity in his photos is amazing, along side the beautiful colours. If we're not talking about photography accounts, I highly suggest @weratedogs. It is the best account if you want to look at cute dogs, with funny captions.

Why do you follow KelownaNow?

I follow KelownaNow because I love seeing the amazing places that are right here in Kelowna to explore. I wouldn't get half the shots I do if KelownaNow didn't display the wonderful locations.

How do you decide on your location for shoots?

I'd be lying if I said my photo locations were pre-planned. I love hiking and going to explore anywhere I can reach, and I always have my camera on hand. I also try to take photos as close to home as possible; I have a teacher who always said "The best places to shoot are the ones you're most familiar with."

Biggest Instagram moment?

Trying to think of my biggest Instagram moment is hard because, as I'm not super popular I don't really have 'big moments' on my page. I think the closest to a big moment my page has had, has to be when I posted my first photo. I had this huge out pour of support from everyone I knew, friends, family, and community members. It really encouraged me to continue to take photos and post them.
