Not everything about winter is terrible, and these stunning ice castles prove it.

Ice Castles is a Utah-based entertainment company that specializes in large-scale events handcrafted from pure ice. They use a patented method to construct their castles, and the result is something out of a Disney movie.

Founder of Ice Castles, Brent Christensen, crafted his first castle in the front yard of his home out of a desire to make his children happy.

His invention turned out to be a hit with his children and the entire neighbourhood.

Now, each year Ice Castles brings fairy tales to life for hundreds of thousands of families across North America. They are currently in six cities, one of which is Edmonton, Alta.

The attraction is a popular draw for people wanting to explore the icy structures and snap some photos.

Ice Castles opens in late December or early January, depending on the weather. To find out more about locations, tickets, and dates, click here.
