“Homegrown flavors, idyllic lakes and vineyards, and alpine vistas,” are just a few of the characteristics that have earned the Thompson Okanagan the title of best road trip in BC in the eyes of National Geographic.
The region that we call home has been featured in the magazine, and is on display for a global audience.
The piece is by Nat Geo filmmaker Bryan Smith and his wife Lise-Anne Beyries. The couple detail a trip through the Okanagan Valley and the Thompson Valley.
Some draws to the region that they listed were the wineries, of course, but also the chance to learn about the Indigenous culture, unique cuisine, and stunning natural beauty.
Specific spots that are mentioned include the Kettle Valley Rail Trail in Kelowna, the Three Blind Mice biking trails, Poplar Grove Winery in Penticton and Mission Hill Estate Winery in West Kelowna.
In Kamloops, the Indigenous paddling tour Moccasin Trails is highlighted.
“Watch for bald eagles and black bears, listen to native stories and music, and learn how the First Nations heritage of the areas surrounding Kamloops differs from regions farther south,” the article reads.
