UBCO to present unique presentation on cancer

One of the world’s most influential scientific minds is about to make a unique presentation in Kelowna. 

The UBC Faculty of Medicine has invited Dr. Marco Marra, a cancer research specialist, to speak at the UBC Okanagan campus on Friday, May 27.

In a unique presentation, the UBC Professor will discuss genome analysis, the process of examining the DNA of each cancer patient to provide highly individualized cancer therapy. Dr. Marra’s talk, It’s Personal, explains the progress made in genomics research, the key to personalized medicine and the opportunities and challenges related to genomic studies to treatment outcomes.

Dr. Marra has been the recipient of the Dr. Chew Wei Memorial Prize in Cancer Research. It is an honour awarded annually by the UBC Faculty of Medicine for a Canadian who has made outstanding contributions to the treatment, improvement of care or cure for cancer.

The event is being held at UBC Okanagan and is open to the public. Pre-registration is required for those who are interested in attending, can be completed online through canceritspersonal.eventbrite.ca or by calling 250-807-8282.

The public lecture begins at 6:30 on Friday, May 27.
