UBC Okanagan has received over $1 million in federal grant funding in an array of disciplines.
The funding comes from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and will support a variety of social, cultural, economic, sustainability and arts-based research projects.
The exact amount coming the UBCO is $1.088 million, part of over $100 million in funding that the SSHRC provides in support of approximately 8,300 research projects.
The grants were awarded to 14 researchers from the university across five different faculties.
“These grants will allow our researchers and students to carry out studies across a range of disciplines and we are very proud of our faculty’s success this year,” said Dr. Phillip Barker, vice-principal of research at UBCO. “These awards are a strong acknowledgement of the breadth and depth of our research capabilities on the Okanagan campus and demonstrates that our research intensity continues to expand.”
Some of the current research initiatives at UBCO include creative thinking in curriculum development, the role of social support systems, policies and practices for temporary migrant agricultural workers and how families living with autism spectrum disorders can engage in safe and active recreation.
