UBC Okanagan Heat men and women’s volleyball teams squared up against the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack to finish their season on Senior Night in Kelowna on Saturday.

The Heat men’s volleyball program entered the game with momentum, after getting the better of their Okanagan rivals the night prior.

However, the Heat team wasn’t as lucky for their last regular season game of the 2018/2019 season, falling to the WolfPack in three sets.

TRU managed to take a quick and demanding lead to start the opening frame, with the visitors putting an eight-point gap between the two teams early on. UBCO countered, turning up the heat with five straight points shortly after. But the set ended 25-22.

UBCO fell to a large WolfPack lead to open the second frame, similar to the first, also closing the set with a 25-22 score. Their third and final set showed a hungry WolfPack, who finished the last set and the game with a 13-point gap (25-12).

The men’s program said goodbye to their 6’2” outside hitter from Moose Jaw, SK, after their loss to the WolfPack.

Brennan Goski transferred from the University of Regina in Saskatchewan for one-year with the Heat, making his presence known during his only year in the program with 144 kills.

The Heat women’s volleyball program also bid farewell to a few of their seniors in a loss to the WolfPack this weekend.

Sophia Furlan, a libero from Calgary, AB; Aidan Lea, a middle from Kelowna; and Ann Richards, an outside hitter from Assiniboine, SK, all wore the Heat jersey for the last time this weekend, as the seniors will be graduating this year.

Despite a struggling offense from both teams, UBCO led 18-13 following the media time out. The WolfPack picked up their game and came back to tie it up at 22 a piece before taking the opening set 25-22.

The second set showed two teams hungry for the set and although the Heat kept their foot on the pedal, TRU took the second set 25-21.

Their persistence showed in the third set, as the Heat buckled in for the long game. The home squad hit .300 in the frame with only four errors to push the match to a fourth set (25-17).

Unfortunately for the women's Heat team, the WolfPack took the game and crashed the Senior Night celebrations (25-19).
