UBC Okanagan announces new director of athletics

There’s a new director of athletics and recreation for UBC Okanagan.

Tom Huisman is the man that has been appointed to the role, joining the school with more than 25 years of senior sport and university leadership experience.
 

Before that, Huisman had his own athletic career as a provincial soccer player, as well as a varsity distance and cross-country runner.

Originally from Winnipeg, Huisman is a University of Manitoba graduate who most recently held the position of manager of interuniversity sport programs at Carleton University.

According to a release from the UBCO Heat website, “looking forward to the opportunity to lead and build upon the solid foundation of athletic and recreation programs at UBC Okanagan, and to contribute to the sport and recreation landscape of Kelowna and surrounding region.”

His appointment becomes effective on May 1.
