The spookiest day of the year is almost here, and police are handing out tips on how to keep everyone safe.
“Lots of candy, dressing in crazy costumes, and going door to door asking for treats,” said Cst. Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
“It is so much fun but it is also a time where accidents can occur and a fun filled night suddenly turns into a truly forgettable one.”
From appropriate costumes, traffic, and checking your children’s candy out, there’s lots to keep in mind for your night of trick-or-treating.
The RCMP recommends making sure costumes don’t interfere with walking. You should also choose a visible costume, or use reflectors.
Bring along a flashlight, and keep children in sight at all times.
Police are also reminding parents to give their children’s candy a once over before they dive into their haul.
Drivers also need to be cautious — go slow and be prepared to stop.
Finally, if you plan on celebrating the night with fireworks, make sure you have the appropriate permit.
