A black bear got a special escort out of city limits this morning after showing up in Ladysmith.

In a video posted to Facebook by the Town of Ladysmith, two RCMP vehicles can be seen driving slowly behind the bear to make sure it found its way back into the wilderness.

According to the town, the bear was a juvenile and was initially spotted on 2nd Avenue.

Officers followed it all the way to the cemetery before it disappeared into the bush.

“We're grateful here on Vancouver Island to live among nature and that sometimes means coming into contact with wildlife,” the town added.

People are also reminded that they can help manage encounters with wildlife by limiting attractants left outside, such as garbage and compost bins.
