There’s so many things you can do to get in the Christmas spirit and that absolutely includes a horse-drawn sleigh ride.

Luckily for Okanagan residents, that’s a realistic possibility in Vernon thanks to Horse Drawn Okanagan and Silver Sage Stables.

Families, friends and lovers are invited out to enjoy a sleigh ride, drink hot cocoa, eat cookies and carol around a roaring fire.

Rides are open to the public from Dec. 21-24 and Dec. 27-31 between 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. with rides starting every half hour.

We are happy to share our passion of draft horses with the community, everyone from Vernon, Lumby, Armstrong, Lake Country and beyond. It’s not everyday that you get to do something like this,” said Kelly MacIntosh, event organizer.

“The stories of our grandparents working with horses on the farm are not as frequent anymore. We want to keep the tradition going and give everyone a great experience.”

You might even recognize some of the horses tugging the sleighs, as they’ve been used for other Okanagan events like sleigh rides at O’Keefe Ranch in 2017.

Most of the same horses, teamsters and drivers will take part again this year and the move to Silver Sage Stables allows the event to expand and offer its guests more.

They have a gorgeous farm with great horse amenities and lots of experience hosting events and weddings,” MacIntosh said of Silver Sage Stables. “The backdrop is stunning and great for family photos, especially at sunset.”

Tickets are $17.50 for adults, $10 for children and free for kids three-years-old and under.

They’re available through Ticket Seller online or by phone at 250-549-7469, with groups of six receiving a 10% discount.

Proceeds will go towards C.R.I.S. Adaptive Adventures, an Okanagan-based charitable organization that provides relief to people with physical or mental disabilities through outdoor programs.
