(UPDATE: Aug. 5 @ 11:35 am) - DriveBC expects Hwy 97 to be closed south of Vernon until around 4 pm.

The road was closed between Bailey Road and Kalamalka Lakeview Drive this morning after what the RCMP called a "serious multiple-vehicle collision."

In the meantime, detours are available for motorists to bypass the accident scene.

Northbound traffic is being detoured via College Way, while southbound traffic is using Commonage Road to get around the incident.


(Original story: Aug. 5 @ 9:15 am) - Hwy 97 is currently closed in both directions on the southern border of Vernon.

The RCMP says it is responding to a “serious multiple-vehicle collision” near the Vernon Cadet Training Centre and Vernon Golf & Country Club.

Vernon Fire Rescue is also responding to the incident and said there are two vehicles involved in the collision that happened around 8:30 am.
 

Police expect the highway to remain closed for “several hours” as the investigation continues.

“Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use an alternate route,” noted the RCMP.
