An investigation is underway to try and figure out who’s responsible for a number of concerning leaflets found in Vernon on Wednesday.

They were discovered scattered around various locations in the city and were cleaned up by members of the community.

However, due to the nature of the leaflets, several were turned over to the RCMP.

The RCMP examined the content and found it was linked to “a specific, extreme ideology” and called it “propaganda.”

“We share the concerns of the community about the content of the material and specifically the manner in which it has been distributed,” said Cst. Chris Terleski.

Terleski added that whatever happens with this investigation, the RCMP wants to shine a light on the response of the community and how the leaflets were cleaned up and disposed of.

“There is no place for hatred of any form, for anyone, and it will not be tolerated,” he said.

While police investigate to try and determine who may have been responsible for distributing the leaflets, they’re asking any member of the public with information to come forward.

To do so, call the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 or report tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477.
