The Vernon RCMP is on the hunt for a man who allegedly broke into a garage while armed last week.

It happened around 8:20 am on Friday, Jan. 8, when a homeowner returned to their residence on Mountridge Road and found an unknown person in their garage.

When the homeowner approached the unknown man, he allegedly produced a firearm before fleeing from the back of the property into a black SUV waiting nearby.

“Frontline officers from the Vernon RCMP responded to the area immediately, however, the suspect vehicle was not located by police,” said Cst. Chris Terleski.

“We appreciate the emotional impact this event may have had on those involved and are thankful that no one was injured.”

Terleski said that every effort is being made to identify and apprehend those responsible for this scare.

The suspect is described as an Indigenous man who was wearing black clothing, a black ball hat and a bandana that covered his face.

Anyone who has information that can help this investigation is urged to contact the Vernon RCMP by calling 250-545-7171.
