A paraglider who got caught up on power lines was rescued in Vernon Friday night.
At about 7:40 pm, Vernon firefighters were called out to the 4400-block of 32nd Street following several reports from drivers that a person on a fan powered paraglider was stuck about 20 feet off the ground.
A release says the man had to make an emergency landing and got caught on a set of cable and telephone lines.
The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP also attended the area and temporarily closed a section of the road while the rescue took place.
BC Hydro also attended the scene for safety purposes, although no power lines were involved in the incident.
Firefighters parked a fire engine under the man to keep him from falling and used the bucket of the ladder truck to get him unstuck.
Fortunately, he was uninjured and firefighters say the man’s machine ran out of fuel, which caused the emergency landing.
“We’re proud of the quick and creative work of the crew to complete this rescue and we’re thankful that everyone was kept safe,” said deputy fire chief Alan Hofsink.
