Vernon RCMP nab alleged thief lurking in the shadows

A 27-year-old Vernon man was brought into custody after evading police for some time in the dark this morning.

He was spotted allegedly stealing from vehicles in the Okanagan Landing area and the RCMP was called around 1:30 a.m.

Officers arrived on scene in the 2700 block of Lakeshore Road, but the man fled the area on foot and wasn’t located.

Extensive patrols were made for the suspect and he was seen walking into dark pathways and between homes, attempting to avoid police detection.

“Given the recent increase in theft from vehicles throughout the city this particular call yielded a multi-unit response by RCMP officers to the area,” said Cst. Kelly Brett.

“Even though the suspect male had fled the area, officers were diligent in their search, which ultimately led them locating the suspect in the area.“

He was taken into custody without incident and faces multiple charges in connection to multiple car break ins.

His court appearance was scheduled for today.
