A woman has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a store owner and smashing up her business.

Jayleen Fuller, 28, who has no fixed address, faces charges including mischief and assault.

She is said to have entered a business in downtown Vernon – in the 3200 block of 30th Ave – on Sept. 20 at about 11 am.

Mounties said witnesses told them the woman was told to leave her bags at the front of the store for security reasons.

In response to this request, she allegedly assaulted the store owner without warning.

Alongside the assault, the store was also damaged.

When officers arrived at the scene, two bystanders were restraining the woman on the ground.

“This incident, although isolated, is one that no business owner wants to be faced with,” said Cst Kelly Brett.

“Police believe the female suspect may have been under the influence of an unknown substance, given her erratic behaviour, which continued while in police custody.

“The RCMP would like to commend the good Samaritans that came to the aid of the store owner at the time of the incident, as their efforts aided in keeping the female suspect under control until police arrived on scene.”

Fuller is set to appear in court at a “future date,” police added.
