For 10 years, a group of caring people has been advocating for a food bank dedicated to student use on campus at Okanagan College.

This past September, The Pantry at Okanagan College Kelowna Campus opened its doors to students needing a bit of help.

For some students, the stretched dollars can get pretty thin. They may not be left with much after paying tuition and buying textbooks.  And for some who may be living away from home for the first time, rent can be added to the equation.

“With the stresses of classes and course loads, there's a lot adding up, and food is usually the first thing that gets cut”, explains Bank Brianne Berchowitz, Executive Director for the Okanagan College Student Union Food.

The shelves at the Pantry are stocked with non-perishables and hygiene items and students can help themselves when ends aren’t quite meeting. “Every time a student facing issues comes in here, you can just see a little bit of relief”, says Courtney Kindlein, Organizer Okanagan College Students’ Union.

The Pantry is located at A149 at Okanagan College, Kelowna campus.
