There are some popular novels out there with stories set right here in the Okanagan.  That's because best selling author Jonas Saul has settled into life in Kelowna.

Pick up his novel, The Antagonist, for example, and you will see numerous references to this place.  Saul sat down with us at KelownaNow where he describes the challenges he faced to get his successful writing career going.

"Perseverence," said Saul when asked about the early days when he couldn't get an agent. "If this is what you want, you have to keep going." Saul turned to self publishing and sold 2 million of his books on his own.

Saul says he does his best work when he writes quickly. "The faster I write the first draft, the more intense the draft will be."  The married father of two said he discovers where his stories are going as he writes them. "Sometimes I'm even at my desk at 9 AM and I'm like, 'Oh my goodness! What am I going to write today?'"

Saul is one of many published authors who live here.  He's part of the Kelowna Writers Group which brings them together at 6PM on the first Tuesday of each month at the Kelowna Library on Ellis Street.
