When Glendon Smedley last took on Colin Basran in 2014, Basran won with 16,888 votes.
Smedley got just 84.
But he's back.
"It's like Jonah and the whale," said Smedley. "God says I've got to do this."
Win or lose, he enjoys the process.
"Sure," he said. "Because then I learn from it and I become better at it. So I become a better leader."
When he's not campaigning, Smedley works as a carpenter.
It's the homeless situation that motivates him to get involved.
"It's heartbreaking for me to walk around the city and see what's going on," Smedley explained.
"They need a friend."
And he said the solution could be simpler than you might think.
"One thing I learned from working as a carpenter up north is how fast you can build a camp," Smedley said.
"A 2,000-man camp can be built in less than nine months and I can see that as being one aspect of helping."
One way or another, he believes people need to be housed.
"They need a place to stay and they get their life started. Even if it's from the bottom of the pits, they've got to get themselves to a spot where they can help others."
On the issue of high-rises in Kelowna's downtown, Smedley questions whether we have the resources to safely handle an emergency on the upper floors.
"Can they rescue people above the 12th and 15th floor, like upwards to 30, 40 storeys?"
