"It's elitist". "It's for old people." Conductor and Music Director Rosemary Thompson has heard those comments and others like them for years. But "please," she said, during an interview at KelownaNow. "Give us a try."

It's Thompson's hope that people who have never been to a symphony concert take the plunge. And this weekend would be a great time for it. The Okanagan Symphony's new season begins in Kelowna and follows it up with visits to Penticton and Vernon with renown pianist Jane Coop as it's guest.

This is the Okanagan Symphony's 59th season. It's the third largest symphony in BC. The schedule is all laid out through May and it includes a fascinating visit from Canadian throat singer Tanya Tagaq. And in March, movie lovers will love OSO At the Oscars, as the orchestra gives it's take on many of the numbers you've heard in Academy Award-winning films through the decades.
