A farmers market among a group of highrise buildings?

It's a bit of a paradox.

But after the first few weeks at the Landmark District, vendors are giving the new venue the thumbs up.

"Love it," said Minisa Chanyaneff from Okanagan Stitching Company. "We have more space and the customers between shopping, they can sit down and enjoy themselves."

She said they're getting added business from people who work in the office buildings.

"Usually our Wednesday is slower," said Chanyaneff. "But now with all the staff around it's really, really good."

Down the row, at Jerry's Faves, the spice mixes and dry rubs are also doing well.

"I think it's really cool," said Grant Kirschner. "It's definitely brought more interesting features than the parking lot we were in before."

Kirschner is referring to the empty lot at Springfield and Dilworth which was home to the Farmers' and Crafters' Market for almost 30 years.

The market had been looking for a roomier location for a few years, and they found the answer when the people at the Stober Group reached out to them.

Every vendor we spoke to seems to agree, that the new location is a step up.

"Love it, love it," exclaimed Sharon Kolenc at From Grandma's Oven Traditional Baking.

"We've got 5,000 people working here at Landmark. When they come down for coffee breaks, they pay attention to us."

And the possibilities for the market go beyond their traditional outdoor season.

KFCM Executive Director Allie Becker has told KelownaNow there's a possibility of  a year-round home for the KFCM in the future development plans at  Landmark District.

The COO at the Stober Group, Lisa Lock has suggested the move is just what the Landmark District needs.

“The inclusion of the KFCM is central to this vision, adding more vibrancy and life to the District," Lock explained.

"Their presence is pivotal in making this community a bustling hub, enriching our ongoing commitment to local farmers, artisans, small business and the community at large."

The market is open Wednesdays and Saturdays 8 am to 1 pm.
