They are a great treatment for cabin fever, and they're now open to the public. The waterparks at Kelowna's Ben Lee and City Parks opened today.

"They love it," said one mother as her children splashed away. "He loves water. He loves it," said another, about her two-year-old son.

A young father said the opening of the waterparks is among the biggest events of the year for his daughter. "A big day," he said, "she's been asking for it all morning."

When the City of Kelowna announced the opening schedule earlier this month, they included some words of caution related to the pandemic.

“Much like playgrounds, we ask that parents help teach their kids about safe distancing and hand hygiene before visiting these parks,” read the statement from Doug Nicholas, sports and event services manager.

“It’s important to remember to avoid overcrowding to ensure these spaces can stay open,” he added.

The City went as far as to encourage parents to consider visiting a different park or beach when the waterpark begins to look crowded.

People who are feeling sick or have anyone in their household who are sick are asked to stay home.

The release also contained a reminder that parents should remain on-site ad supervise while children play.

The waterparks at City Park and Ben Lee are open 11 am until 6 pm daily. Quilchena Splash Park will be open from 8 am to 8 pm, but not until next Monday.
