The $18 price of a sandwich didn't discourage them. And neither did the half-hour long lineup. The crowd stretched across the parking lot outside Gasoline Alley Harley Davidson today with people eager for a taste of the east coast.

The main item on the menu is what they call the lobster roll, which is a lobster mixture on an upscale hot dog bun.

"Our lobster mixture, we use all knuckle and claw meat which is the most tender and sweetest meat", said Mike Taylor, who was behind the counter at his Lobster Pot food truck.

"We mix it up with a homemade garlic aioli and a touch of celery and the bun is hot and the lobster is cold, just like they are in the Maritimes."

Taylor and his wife started the first Lobster Pot in Vernon a year ago, so the Kelowna truck represents an expansion of the business.

By the time the truck opened, people were already cued up. Word was out.

"My daughter texted me this morning, she lives in Victoria," said one customer. "'Get down there,' she said, 'they open today.'"

"Very excited," said another woman in the line."Had it when I was in the Maritimes, I've had a frozen lobster tail occasionally, but I love it, so this is great."

The only other item on the menu is the lobster mac n' cheese and that's it.

"We’ll probably just stick to the two items for the time being," said Taylor in an interview with KelownaNow prior to the opening.

"We have small trailers, they’re basic, we try not to make them too complicated. Our goal is to focus on being really good at one or two things."

The crowd that turned-out for the opening day exceeded expectations."I think it's awesome!" said Taylor, amid the chaos.

The Lobster Pot is set up at Gasoline Alley 11:00 am to 5:00 pm daily.
