With little more than nine months to go before the next federal election, the political jabs start to get a little sharper. But Kelowna Lake Country MP Stephen Fuhr isn't one to shy away from his critics. If he doesn't repeat the upset that he pulled off when he was elected in 2015, he certainly won't go away quietly. And he was happy to come in to KelownaNow to bring us up to date on what's happening federally, and what we'll likely be hearing about between now and election day.

Fuhr is feeling pretty good about what the Liberal government has delivered for Canadians. Like the new Pacific trade deal that Canada has signed. (CCTPP)  It's a deal that will give Okanagan cherry growers access to markets like Japan. "Canada is now the only G7 country that has a free trade agreement with every other G7 country," he pointed out. "So that's an awesome place to be."

The Liberals have been taking some political hits over their federally mandated Carbon Tax, or what they prefer to call a "Price on Pollution". "A price on pollution changes people's behavior and it changes companies behavior and it works," said a defiant Fuhr. He said he's happy to have the conversation on climate change policy, because he said the majority of Canadians believe we need a tax on carbon use.

Fuhr said the federal government has some local accomplishments to talk about too, including funds for Rails to Trails, homelessness, UBCO, Okanagan College and more. The Federal Election takes place October 21st.
