How hard could it be to write a short story? Now now is your chance to find out. Submissions are open for the annual Okanagan Short Story Contest at UBCO. 2016 winner and creative writing lecturer and contest judge Dania Tomlinson spoke with KelownaNow as the call goes out to budding writers from around the Southern Interior.
"Every single line and every word is there for a reason," said Tomlinson, "and that's something that's extremely hard to do." The contest has been going on for 21 years. A lot of the submissions tend to come from students, but not all. "People outside of academia have certainly won it in the past," she said. Stories have to be between 1,000 and 4,000 words. There's a $15 fee and all proceeds go toward creative writing scholarships.
