People don't want to 'fall back' anymore. A provincial government poll showed not just a majority, but an incredible 93 percent of respondents calling for an end to the twice-yearly time changes. Instead, people prefer the idea of setting the clocks at daylight savings time and leaving them there. We wanted to see if Kelowna residents are so certain.
Our own sidewalk survey conducted on Bernard Avenue came up with similar results.
Over 223,000 people responded to the government survey. More than half of the respondents to that same poll indicated they thought it was important that we make any changes in alignment with neighouring jurisdictions. Other provinces and nearby states are in various stages of moving toward permanently adopting daylight savings time. Pending federal approval, Washington, Oregon and California are close to enacting legislation that would see those states, which all share a time zone with BC, make the change. BC Premier John Horgan is not making any hasty promises about scrapping the time changes. “We want to make sure we consider every implication in determining what is right for BC," he said.
