When they first proposed putting a supportive housing project on Commerce Avenue in Kelowna, Bonnie Worsdall was worried. She operates That Pottery Place, a business she recently relocated from the downtown. Worsdall feared the problems she had experienced downtown were following her to the new spot. But now that Hearthstone is filled with grateful tenants, it's a different story. Businesses in the area have not been suffering, at least not yet. Warsdall has a message for the residents of the Agassiz Road area who have similar fears about the project proposed for that part of the city. "I think they should give them a chance," she said.

It's been six weeks since the 46-unit, Hearthstone opened on Commerce Avenue. When asked about any problems so far, Worsdall was quick to answer, "None whatsoever," she said. "It's actually kind of nice having something there rather than that big, empty field that was there."

Earlier this week, KelownaNow showed you how about 75 seniors from the Agassiz Road area protested outside City Hall over the project proposed for their neighbourhood.

The public hearing on the proposed Agassiz Road supportive housing project is now scheduled for Thursday, January 17.
