With an exhaustive consultation process wrapped-up, it's now time for Kelowna's task force on homelessness to transition. The Journey Home Task Force is becoming the Central Okanagan Journey Home Society.
Co-Chair, Dr. Kyleen Myrah dropped in at KelownaNow to talk about what it will take to turn the work of her group into real solutions to the problem.
"We think we're well positioned to access federal provincial and municipal funds," said Myrah. And despite a priority list that's expected to cost close to $50M she believes the economic argument favours moving ahead with the agenda. "If we do nothing," she argued, "It will cost us $100M as tax payers regardless."
But already, the effort is hitting roadblocks. The project proposed for Agassiz Road in Kelowna is facing fierce opposition. "A lot of it is lots of fear, lots of misinformation," said Myrah. "Our job is to listen and keep relaying information that's correct, trying to answer some of those concerns."
