Choosing the right Halloween costume has never been so complicated, but it remains one of the best ways to make a party fun. There's nothing like wearing a funny outfit to liven-up the mood. At Calowna Costume, they've been dressing people up for 37 years. With the biggest night of the year just a few days away we stopped in to find out what's hot and what's not.

Topping the Pop Culture themes this year are The Incredibles and Fortnight related costumes. But owner, Kerri Brandel said the old favourites are as popular as ever, "traditional Halloween which I absolutely love," said Brandel, "Draculas, vampires, Elvira!"

With concerns over cultural appropriation, people are avoiding certain costumes. "They try and shy away from some of the stuff that's out there, just to be a bit more considerate," said Brandel.

Another area of concern are the costume contact lenses which can be hazardous if not properly used. Brandel said she won't sell them to anyone under the age of 19 and anyone who buys them is asked to sign a waiver.

Still, once you've made all the tough choices, Brandel says it's as fun as ever. "It's amazing!' she said. "You come down and we basically suit you up.  We customize the costume to you and to your needs."

Calowna Costume has been renting and selling costumes from it's Bernard Avenue location since 1981.
