They were three middle school kids who were all into making videos, and they decided to get together and start a Youtube channel. They named it TMS Productions after their first initials and soon they had hundreds of followers. Then a few videos really struck a chord, and just a few years later their followers numbered close to 15 thousand. Tommy DeWitt, and Stephen and Mitchell Kucher are now enjoying the academic break that comes with the "gap year" they've all chosen to take after high school graduation. The future is a big question mark right now but they all agreed their next step should be a sit-down interview here at KelownaNow. So here it is.
Tommy DeWitt says he was already into making films when he saw that the Kucher brothers were doing the same. So he reached out. "Why don't we join together and make one Youtube channel?" he asked. "We just started making films and we haven't stopped and it's been pretty cool." And what sets them apart from the multitudes of people who post things on Youtube? "It's probably attention to detail," suggests Mitchell Kucher. "We like to make sure it looks good."
The videos produced by the trio often contain some very high-quality cinematography and real polish in the editing process, but yet they still maintain a rough-cut feel. They like to call that "unpolishedness". And there's always a sense of humour present. TMS has lots of local followers but, it's gaining big numbers in the United States and around the world. "India is a big one too," said Stephen Kucher. "They're such an emerging audience with everyone getting on the internet."
In an effort to turn their work into a money-maker, TMS has been taking on corporate video projects for organizations including Okanagan College and the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association. To find out more about what they are up to, check out their website .
