Myles Mattila noticed something wasn't right with a friend and teammate. He was concerned about him. But when he brought it up with his coach, instead of getting help, the player got cut from the team. Now Mattila is determined to make change. Mattila's current team, the Kelowna Chiefs are supporting him in his efforts to on get the subject of mental health the attention and sensitivity it deserves.
A the age of 16 Mattila created a website where young hockey players can go to find the resources they need on the subject of mental health. His efforts have not gone unnoticed. In fact, the Prime Minister gave him a mention on social media.

After that, local MP Stephen Fuhr would fly Mattila to Ottawa to meet Justin Trudeau.
Recently, the Chiefs dedicated a game to the subject of mental health, and Mattila addressed the crowd from centre ice.
Whether they use his platform, or simply turn to someone they trust, Mattila wants young people to know that it's okay to talk about this subject.
"It is very crucial to know that you're not alone," said Mattila.
All this attention off the ice doesn't seem to be hurting him on the ice. Just prior to our interview, he scored a hat trick.
Whether or not he ever plays pro hockey, when it comes to making a difference in his community, Myles Mattila is already in the big leagues.
