The annual motionball Marathon of Sport is once again rolling through Kelowna, raising funds and spreading smiles along the way.

Hosted as a fun way to garner funds for the Special Olympics, motionball ensures anyone and everyone has an opportunity to participate in sports.

To date the event has donated half a million dollars to the cause, helping to cover the cost of training, travel, coaching and more for the nearly 200 athletes in Kelowna.

Not only do participants work hard to support local athletes financially, but the event also helps to break down barriers and foster inclusivity.

“This event really is all about inclusion, breaking down barriers and ending stigmas around intellectual disabilities,” said Erica Marshall, marketing and communications director for motionball.

“We want to make sure that we secure the foundation of Special O, so that as many athletes are able to participate as possible — lives are going to be changed here today.”

Each motionball team is paired up with a talented Olympian to see the effects of their fundraising efforts first hand and for a chance to build new friendships through sports.

Attendees have the opportunity to test their skills at a variety of activity stations including street hockey, volleyball, flag football and more.

If you were unable to attend the 2019 motionball Marathon of Sport, you can still get involved by making an online donation.
