The community is being asked to weigh in on new rules in the works that will affect properties and facilities where alcohol is served in the District of West Kelowna.

The Municipal Alcohol Policy Survey will be open to residents until February 5th and can be found online. Public input is being requested by the district before the final policy is drafted. The District of West Kelowna is partnering with BC Healthy Communities to create a Policy that will promote responsible alcohol consumption at public and private events sanctioned by the District or held on District property.

The policy will set out the following requirements: ensuring severs are at least 19 years of age and have Serving it Right training, creating a safe ride home plan for guests and ensuring options are posted and available to attendees, refusing service to those who have had too much to drink and preventing minors from being served alcohol.

The policy’s rules will be applied to facilities and properties such as Royal LePage Place and Jim Lind Arena, Lakeview Heights Community Hall, Boucherie Ball Fields and Kinsmen and Memorial Parks. Once finalized, the policy will be presented to mayor and council in the spring for their consideration of adoption.
