A recent article in The Drinks Business looks at “The Top 10 Architectural Wonders of the Wine World”, with West Kelowna’s own Mission Hill Family Estate Winery cracking the list. “You don’t have to look far to find stunning examples of architectural prowess in the world of wine, but this collection of avant-garde, boundary-breaking wineries are perhaps among the most impressive,” writes Lauren Eads.

In a list filled with wineries from Spain, Italy, and California’s Napa Valley, Mission Hill holds its own thanks to its gorgeous courtyard, archway, and magnificent bell tower. The tower itself is 12 storeys tall with four bronze bells that were handcrafted in Annecy, France by the Paccard Bell Foundry.

“While the quality of the wine is arguably more important than the visual aesthetic of the winery in which it was made, there is no doubt that a striking building can help boost a winery’s profile. Not to mention the environmental and economic benefits that can come with a bespoke, state-of the art winery,” says Eads.

The winery was in the running to be named one of the 100 Best Buildings in B.C. in 2014, and though it didn't win, the architecture was the most popular in voting.

Check out Mission Hill’s views in the pictures below, or better yet, take advantage of a gorgeous day and go wine touring to see the architecture (and the wine) in person.
