West Kelowna Looking for Input to Allow Carriage Houses

A public hearing will be held on Tuesday, June 23rd to gather input into proposed regulations to allow carriage homes in West Kelowna.

The hearing will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the District of West Kelowna Municipal Hall, located at 2760 Cameron Road. A carriage house is a smaller, second home located on an existing residential property that already has a single detached residential dwelling.

Council needs to consider amending two bylaws in order to approve carriage homes in West Kelowna.

These proposed amendments would affect the following zones:

West Kelowna Council is considering an amendment to the Zoning Bylaw to allow the use of carriage houses on parcels within certain zones throughout the District. In order for a parcel to be eligible for the addition of a carriage house, the parcel would be required to adhere to a specific set of regulations. The regulations address a variety of siting regulations including required minimum parcel size, servicing requirements, allowable gross floor area, setbacks from parcels lines, required screening, etc.

Copies of the bylaws and related materials may be reviewed at Municipal Hall, 8:30 to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays, up to and including June 23, 2015.
