An Okanagan veterinarian is being hailed an everyday hero after saving the lives of 10 adorable puppies, and paying for their medical bills out of his own pocket.
Dr. Moshe Oz and his wife, Dr. Noa Oz, along with all of the dedicated staff at Rose Valley Veterinary Hospital, worked around the clock to help rehabilitate 10 very ill puppies.
The owner of the puppies had called the clinic over Thanksgiving weekend in a panic. After a quick assessment, it became apparent that the puppies had a critical case of parvo, a contagious and life-threatening canine virus that can induce severe vomiting and diarrhea.
However, with perseverance, constant care, lots of fluids, and expensive medications, the puppies were given a second chance at life.
In a conversation with Dr. Oz, he explained that puppies in such a critical state would typically be euthanized or would likely not survive.
Now the pups are on the road to recovery, with most of them having since found forever homes.
Community member Tammy Arishenkoff started a gofundme campaign for the Ozs, as a way to thank them for their continued and dedicated support to the animals and pet owners of the Okanagan.
The clinic spent approximately $15,000 on treating the parvo puppies, which all came out of the Oz pocketbook.
“I think it’s up to us as a community to support what he does in any way that we can. It’s about giving back, I mean he gives so much to us. Just the love and compassion that he has, not only for the animals and for his staff, but for everyone. He is always so caring, and he’s our vet and we love him,” said Arishenkoff, whose pooch is a patient at the Rose Valley clinic.
When asked how he felt about the community rallying together to help support him, a very humbled Dr. Oz responded with:
“I do it from my heart. It’s all of us, it’s me and my wife Dr. Noa, it’s the decision that we made since the start, is to try and help as much as we can,” said Dr. Moshe.
