Original Story:

There is good news for fire fighters battling the Cinnabar Creek fire in West Kelowna.

Calm winds and cooler overnight temperatures provided good conditions for fire crews working on the 2.8-hectare wildfire off Westside Road. Approximately 20 BC Wildfire Service fire fighters along with structural fire fighters from Wilson’s Landing, North Westside and the West Kelowna departments conducted patrols throughout the fire zone overnight.

There are no problems reported, but the evacuation alert remains in effect for Lake Okanagan Resort, Camp Owaissi and Camp Mewata. Residents and visitors are being told that they must be prepared to leave with short notice should the conditions change.

Officials will review the alert status as the day progresses. Single lane alternating traffic is now allowed through the fire zone just north of Lake Okanagan Resort and south of Denison Road. Information will be updated through the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations as soon as it becomes available.
