Another night of cooler temperatures helped firefighters gain the upper hand on the Bear Creek wildfire, but the evacuation order remains in place for some homes.

Firefighters managed to extinguish a number of hotspots that popped up overnight in the fire area, but luckily no other issues were reported. According to officials, BC Hydro crews worked yesterday and throughout the night to replace burned poles and have restored electrical services to the evacuation area.

Water service for the private Traders Cover utility is currently in the process of being restored and Westside Road remains closed through the fire area. Efforts are continuing to try and provide some vehicle access on Wednesday, but no time frame has been set.

Crews are working their hardest to make the area safe and secure so that residents can return to their homes. The Emergency Support Services Reception Centre in the Lions Community Hall at 2466 Main St. in West Kelowna will reopen at 10 a.m. to provide assistance to those residents out of their homes.

The wildfire remains at 52-hectares in size and is now 80 per cent contained. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
