West Kelowna Fire Rescue is urging people to take precautions during colder months after a chimney fire on Monday morning.

On December 5th, they responded with two engines, one water tender and one command unite to the fire on Cordova way.

A total of 15 firefighters rushed to the blaze.

During the winter months, heating equipment and appliances like fireplaces, furnaces, chimneys, vents and space heaters can be a high risk for fires.

Because of that, the department is recommending people have their fuel-burning appliances inspected, keep chimneys and vents clear and clean, keep space heaters away from everything else and ensure that vehicles are not left running inside your garage.
