(UPDATE: March 18 @ 1:15 p.m.) - The boil water notice previously issued for the West Kelowna Estates Water System has been rescinded.
"Turbidity has returned to acceptable levels," said a statement from the City of West Kelowna.
The notice was originally issued on March 14.
(Original story: March 14 @ 2:20 p.m.) - A mechanical failure at a pressure reducing station has resulted in increased turbidity in the West Kelowna Estates Water System.
As a result, the City of West Kelowna, in conjunction with Interior Health Authority, has issued a boil water notice for properties that use the system.
People should boil water before using it for drinking, making ice, cooking, washing food or brushing teeth.
That means bringing the water to a rolling boil for at least a minute or using an alternate, safe source of water.
Free water is available at the bulk water station at Shannon Lake and Asquith Roads, with the tap located on the Asquith Road side of the station.
Users must bring their own containers, and hoses if needed, and ensure they are clean and suitable for potable water.
In the meantime, repairs are underway and the system will be flushed, disinfected and tested.
The public will be advised when any changes are made to the boil water notice for the West Kelowna Estates Water System, which is fed from Okanagan Lake.
